Team India are back at their happy hunting ground - the Holkar stadium in Indore which will host the second T20I between the Men in Blue and Sri Lanka on Tuesday.

With the 3-match series yet to get off the mark due to the washout in Guwahati on Sunday, both India and Sri Lanka will be looking to open their accounts in the New Year with a win and take an unbeatable lead.

Team India has an enviable record at the Holkar stadium as they haven't lost a single game here across all formats. The 27,000-capacity stadium in Indore has hosted two Tests, a T20 international and 5 ODIs since 2006 and India has emerged victorious on all the eight occasions. Coincidently, the first T20I at the Holkar Stadium was played between India and Sri Lanka on December 22, 2017 with the home team emerging victorious by 88 runs. If recent form is anything to go by, India is overwhelming favorites as well.

The hosts are heading into the New Year series on the back of back-to-back series wins against Bangladesh and West Indies and thus, would be the more confident side out of the two. India is also way ahead in head-to-head encounters against Sri Lanka in the shortest format of the game.

In 6 series played so far, India has won 5 while Sri Lanka has managed a draw. Overall, India has managed to win 11 out of 17 meetings in T20Is. Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and opener Shikhar Dhawan will once again be in the focus on Tuesday.

Bumrah is returning to the team after a 4-month long injury layoff and it will be interesting to see how the pacer gets going. If training sessions are anything to go by, Bumrah may get back to what he does the best straightaway.

Dhawan meanwhile, will need to up his ante in T20Is and make it easy for his partner - KL Rahul - at the other end as India are increasingly focusing on doing well in the powerplay overs. Time is running out for Dhawan and the opener who has returned from an injury break needs to fire straightaway.

With KL Rahul hitting peak form in limited-overs cricket, the onus is on Dhawan to score big runs and keep the team management interested. In 2019, Dhawan was far from impressive in T20Is as the opener managed 272 runs in 12 matches at a below-par strike rate of 110.

RETURN OF ANGELO MATHEWS

For Sri Lanka, the remaining two matches of the series would be about giving match practice to the likes of Angelo Mathews who is returning to the national side having last played a T20I against South Africa in August 2018.

In their last T20I series, Sri Lanka suffered a 0-3 rout in Australia as all their three departments failed to put in a commanding performance.

Sri Lanka have never beaten India in a bilateral T20I series, a record which they would desperately like to change in the remaining two games.
